This is part 3 in our continuing coverage of state-level Latino Democratic organizations (LDO's).
The Democratic Latino Organization of Virginia (DLOV) recently held a very successful fundraiser headlined by the very popular Governor Timothy Kaine (D-VA) and other statewide and regional Latino leaders.
The event was able to raise over $10,000 which will go into a fund that will allow the DLOV PAC to endorse and make contributions to Latino candidates as well as other candidates who have the best interests of the Latino community at heart. Some of the candidates endorsed by the PAC were Adam Ebbin and Marty Martinez, both of whom are running for seats as State Delegates.
Although DLOV is only two years old, the able leadership of Alfonso Lopez, Sindy Benavides, Lina Orr D'Gornaz, Luis Parada, Carlos Soles, Andrew Rivera and others has resulted in the ability of this organization to raise money and play an active role in statewide politics. DLOV is now positioned in such a way as to advise Latino Democratic Organizations in other states, as they begin to approach some of the same hurdles faced earlier by DLOV.
"An ideal situation," explains DNC Member Jerome Wiley Segovia, "would be to be able to count a Latino Democratic organization in each of the fifty states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. We are working towards that, and we trust the the success of and LDO such as DLOV will only help to encourage similar organizations elsewhere to do the same."
